Have you seen this error lately when surfing the internet?
You’re going to see it more and more if your website is not secured with an SSL certificate.
SSL certificates were once believed to be a necessity just by e-commerce websites, any website that was taking and passing or storing credit card information. But now, more than ever, we need to be sure that the information we are sending over the internet is going to the right server. Every server! Not only does it help keep customer information safe, having SSL on a website also provides authentication.
This year, google began displaying warnings to users of websites that do not have SSL certificates:
That lock with the red line through it will be displayed up in the browser by the domain name, along with a similar warning on the screen, and, as you can see here, on a login window of wordpress. Imagine a potential customer will feel if they land on your site and it gives them a potential security warning. Even if all you have is a contact form, you need to get an SSL certificate asap.
Not only for all these reasons, but Google will serve a site with SSL before one without. So, if you’re for example, an interior designer not running SSL but your nearest competitor IS, guess which site will be listed first on the search? There’s!
So let’s not give your customers any reason to pass on your site, or give your competitor an edge – let’s get your site secure today and give your customers the reassuring security green light!
